Community Energy is exactly what it implies. Communities coming together to take control of their energy supply and consumption to realise a cleaner, greener and cheaper energy future.
This can be achieved in a variety of ways; from improving energy efficiency of buildings to reduce consumption, bills and CO2 emissions through to generating renewable energy through solar or geothermal.
What runs through the core of all these projects is the community coming together to identify opportunities and working together. All project are either wholly owned and/or controlled by the communities themselves. We intend to raise money from the wider community by issuing community share offers, and supplement this with funding, trusts and grants from supportive organisations.
By placing democratic control, shared benefits and active participation at the heart of all projects, community energy can create a foundation for the infrastructural and cultural change we need to reduce the impact of climate change, increase our energy security and build stronger communities.
